The competencies of value chain managers are considered one of the key factors in establishing and maintaining an effective and efficient value chain. Accordingly, the main objective of this article is to present a model for identifying and categorizing the key competencies of managers in value chain and supply chain. This study seeks to answer the question: What competencies should managers in this field possess to effectively manage value chain processes.To achieve this objective, the relevant concepts were initially identified through a review of the existing literature and related articles. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 senior managers and experts in the field of value chain and supply chain. The sample for this study was selected using a judgmental and purposive sampling method. Finally, utilizing thematic analysis, a model was proposed for identifying and categorizing the key competencies of value chain and supply chain managers.The findings reveal that the key competencies of value chain managers can be classified into five main categories: core and foundational competencies (including technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and operational efficiency), interpersonal skills (encompassing collaboration and teamwork, communication skills, and conflict resolution), behavioral competencies (including adaptability, ethics, and integrity), knowledge-based competencies (involving market understanding and financial acumen), and professional development (comprising continuous learning and mentoring). This research, by presenting a comprehensive model for the competencies of value chain managers, not only identifies the necessary skills and capabilities but also serves as a tool for improving performance and aligning organizational efforts with strategic objectives.
